March 07 - BOARD NEWS

NEW OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND INTERESTING TALKS
The Board is working towards providing IWC members with the opportunity to attend interesting lectures and talks. In February (see the February bulletin p.21) the lecture
was geared towards women keen to set up a business in Sweden.

Different topics will be explored and we will invite knowledgeable speakers, experts in their own field, enthusiastic men and women you will enjoy listening to and talking with.

We have secured a wonderful venue for our lectures, a bright and welcoming room at the French Institute, Kommendörsgatan 16, right in the town centre near Stureplan. Make the most of this wonderful opportunity for us to meet and for you to find out more about interesting and important issues. IWC members have priority (bring your membership card). If you want to bring guests do phone first.

Check our page entitled “IWC TALKS” (under Social Activities) for the next event!

JOINING A COMMITTEE
Committees serve a huge purpose and the Board would like to encourage members to join a committee. You can join a committee as soon as you become a member, thus facilitating an early insertion in our big family.

The work entailed is never too taxing, though one does have to be available at certain times negotiable with the Chairperson. It is an easy way to meet new people, to be active and connected. You will become a great asset to our Club. It gives an opportunity to work for the Club in a meaningful way without having to be on
The Board. It can train and inspire you to become a future Board member.

Do contact the Chairpersons of the Executive Board to find out more about it. Just to give you an idea, here are a few quick descriptions of what the work entails depending on the chair:

Vice-President: hospitality, coffee mornings…
Bulletin Editor: proof reading, stuffing and sending the bulletin…
Hostess Chairperson: luncheons…
Membership Chairperson: members’ badges, applications…
Philanthropy Chairperson: fund raising, lottery…
Program Chairperson: stage management, networking…

Please find out and you will be amazed how much fun it can be to help your Club!

EXHIBITIONS and FAIRS OF INTEREST:

An exhibition at the Nordiska museet "Wallpaper, Wallpaper" until 5 August 2007. The importance of wallpaper to a room should not be underestimated…A pattern that was daring and exciting yesterday may feel hopelessly dated tomorrow. Nordiska Museet follows the history of wallpaper, from handmade examples dating from the 16th century to today's mass-produced varieties. For more information: www.nordiskamuseet.se

Also quite special to Stockholm, the Stockholm Furniture Fair and the Northern Light Fair are among the year's most popular events. The public's interest in design and home furnishing shows no signs of abating. Every self-respecting newspaper makes sure to deal with the subject at least once a week and the two fairs attracted more than 40,000 visitors last year. The Stockholm Furniture Fair is certainly the biggest in Northern Europe. From 7 to 11 February 2007. For more information: www.stockholmsmassan.se
